PLM Reference Models Background The Reference Models are an example of the synergy between PLMIG activities. PLM Best Practice was launched as a PLMIG initiative in 2005 with Open Days in Oxford and Paris, where it immediately became clear that the subject is much more complex than simply surveying what leading organisations are doing and collating the results. Understanding this complexity led in due course to the PLM Benefits Reference Model concept and launch, which is based on the Best Practice structure but aims at a defined sub-set of the initial concept. Work on the Benefits Reference Model in London and Boston highlighted the need for industry standard knowledge of PLM Maturity, giving rise to three inter-related Models:-
