PLM User Initiative

Structure and Funding

The Initiative will involve extensive development work and travel by the PLMIG, and liaison between the participants.  It is essential that the process remains fluid, and that everyone feels they have the same ownership of the shared results.

A complex financial structure would create bureaucracy in which everyone has to raise and process lots of paperwork throughout the year - and an immense time and planning overhead, as the project steps for each month have to be itemised and approved.

We have therefore opted for an extremely simple structure in which User Initiative participants take out Corporate Membership of the PLMIG and receive their entire participation in the Initiative for 2012 from this one payment.  Each participant will bear their own costs, which will leave them free to decide, for example, whether or not to take part in a particular meeting or event.  There is no mandatory requirement to attend any external event if it is not desired.

This means that travel, input and documentation can be arranged as required during the year, based on the needs of the project rather than the constraints of additional approval; and it creates a "round table" of Corporate Members who can form a de facto "Steering Group" for the PLM industry.

Dissemination

For companies that are not able to participate directly, progress of the PLM User Initiative can be followed by the quarterly PLM Journal that is part of Individual Membership of the PLMIG.
