Workshops in London and Boston to launch PLM Benefits Reference Model Project

Oxford, England. February 21, 2006
The Product Lifecycle Management Interest Group (PLMIG) announced PLM Benefits Workshops to be held
  • March 21-22, 2006 in London, England
  • April 6-7, 2006 in Boston, MA
The Workshops are the first in a series of international Workshops to be hosted by Founder Members of the PLM Benefits Reference Model (BRM) Project.

The objectives of each Workshop are the same:- to bring together PLM practitioners and enable them to examine and evaluate their experiences in defining and measuring PLM benefits; to work through the whole scope of what an industry-standard Benefits Reference Model should be; and to generate all of the draft material to create a workshop view of a PLM Benefits Framework.

The Workshops will enable participants to:
  • learn more about the PLM Benefits Reference Model Project
  • learn about the current situation of PLM benefits; understand the potential benefits of PLM; understand the reasons why identifying, quantifying and justifying PLM benefits can be so difficult
  • find out how other companies address the issues of PLM benefits
  • participate in the only industry-wide initiative addressing PLM benefits
  • make sure the Project is aware of their specific issues
Workshop Details
The London Workshop will be held 21-22 March, 2006 at Stockley Park, Heathrow, England.

The Boston Workshop will be held 6-7 April, 2006 at Newton, MA, USA.

The Workshops are open to members and non-members of the PLMIG.

Workshop Deliverables
Each Workshop will deliver an outline framework for defining PLM Benefits in real businesses. The results can be used by the participants in their own organisations, and will also form part of the overall Launch Phase results. Participants in the Workshops will receive a written Summary Document after the Workshop they attend, and will also receive compiled information about the results of the other Workshops in the series.

The PLM Benefits Reference Model Project
The objective of the PLM Benefits Reference Model project is to develop an industry-agreed, standard PLM Benefits Model to help everyone involved in PLM move forward faster. The Model will enable manufacturing companies to implement PLM faster, and will reduce sales cycles for vendors of PLM products and services.

The project will help everyone involved in PLM - users, product vendors, service providers, academics, etc. The Model will save time when identifying the benefits in each new PLM situation, make it easier to communicate about PLM, and provide a rigorous basis for management decisions about PLM investments.

Founder Members of the PLM Benefits Reference Model Project
A Group of Founder Members, representing the different constituencies in the world of PLM, is being assembled to drive forward this international, collaborative project. In the Launch Phase of the project, the PLMIG is jointly organizing a series of 2-day workshops with the Founder Members:
  • to discuss the current situation of PLM benefits
  • to discuss experience with PLM benefits
  • to enable a wide-ranging discussion of the needs for the PLM Benefits Reference Model
  • to prepare the next steps of the BRM project
The London Workshop is being organized with the assistance of UGS (www.ugs.com).
The Boston Workshop is being organized with the assistance of PTC (www.ptc.com).
