Results Published of PLM Benefits Reference Model London and Boston Workshops Oxford, England. April 24, 2006 The Product Lifecycle Management Interest Group (PLMIG) announced the publication of the results of the PLM Benefits Workshops held on March 21-22 in London, UK and April 6-7, 2006 in Boston, MA. The objectives of the Workshops were:- to bring together PLM practitioners and enable them to examine and evaluate their experiences in defining and measuring PLM benefits; to work through the whole scope of what an industry-standard Benefits Reference Model should be; and to generate all of the draft material to create a workshop view of a PLM Benefits Framework. The results of the workshops are contained in two 19-page Summary Documents, each of which embodies the views and expertise of the respective participants, collated into a clear definition of Scope and Structure. The Summary Documents represent a new and independent body of knowledge about how to identify and treat the benefits that can be gained through PLM, and will enable participants to:
The Benefits Reference Model initiative will continue with a global 'Drivers for PLM' on-line survey, and a series of one-day workshops at user sites to enable companies to compare the results of the London and Boston events with their own PLM situation. The PLM Benefits Reference Model Project The objective of the PLM Benefits Reference Model project is to develop an industry-agreed, standard PLM Benefits Model to help everyone involved in PLM move forward faster. The Model will enable manufacturing companies to implement PLM faster, and will reduce sales cycles for vendors of PLM products and services. The PLM Interest Group The PLM Interest Group is a global Group which brings together its members to work proactively to solve their PLM problems. It has no geographical restrictions on membership or activities. The scope of the PLMIG is the consideration and advancement of Product Lifecycle Management and its related disciplines. Membership of the PLM Interest Group is open to : manufacturers ; developers of PLM and related technologies, vendors and distributors ; system integrators ; consultants ; research institutes ; industry associations ; standardisation bodies ; government agencies ; academia.
