PLM as a Profession

Professional PLM - Round Table Workshop

The Professional PLM Initiative will hold a 2-day, workshop-style meeting in Germany in January 2018, featuring a Keynote presentation from one of the leading industrialists in the field of professionalising PLM.

The cornerstone of the Workshop will be a comprehensive, user-led explanation of the benefits of professionalising PLM.

There will also be a review of the progress that has already been made towards formalised training and certification.

This will be supported by a structured Agenda that enables participants to express their views and to generate a new collective view of the direction that the PLM industry should be taking.

Location and Timing

The Round Table Workshop will be held on 30-31 January 2018.

It will be hosted by the Volkswagen Group at their Headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany.

Keynote

The Keynote presentation is one of the central features of the Workshop.  The speaker is an expert on the needs and benefits of professionalising PLM for manufacturing companies.

Dr.-Ing. Richard Baumann is leading the PLM Professional education program at Volkswagen Group.

He also is part of the Fraunhofer PLM Professional steering committee and is spokesman of the certification board of experts that supports the Fraunhofer Personnel Certification Authority.

The presentation looks at the impact of digitization, smart manufacturing and agile processes; and the need for highly skilled PLM experts to work in this new environment.  It covers progress that has already been made toward defining and certifying PLM expertise, and considers the further actions that are needed as part of further PLM professionalisation.

The Keynote forms part of a structured Agenda that covers all of the issues surrounding the development of an international, unified PLM Profession.

Workshop Format

Neutral

The Workshop is intended for PLM practitioners from all parts of the industry - users, vendors, systems integrators and consultants.  An important feature is that the Agenda does not have any pre-assumptions about the results.  All viewpoints are welcome, and will be worked into the new material.

The interactive format enables everybody to contribute their views productively, and to build their ideas into the deliverables.

2 Days

The Workshop format is based around presentation and discussion of PLM professionalism on Day 1, and construction of deliverables on Day 2.

Day 1 begins with an overview of how the Professional PLM Initiative has developed since its inception in June of last year, setting the scene for the Keynote presentation on Professionalising PLM from a leading industrialist.  These concepts are supported by a review of the formalised principles that have already been developed.  In the afternoon session, group working sessions on a range of subjects bring the participants' own ideas into the discussion.

The morning of Day 2 is focused on detailed group working to develop the Workshop deliverables.  In the afternoon the group will review the outstanding issues and how the PLM industry should plan for the future.

The current Agenda is shown in detail below.
