The Events The PLM Interest Group held matching 2-day PLM Benefits Workshops in mid-March in London, UK, and in early April in Boston MA, USA. They are part of a series of Workshops being held in different locations around the world during the Launch Phase of an international, collaborative project to develop a PLM Benefits Reference Model. Each Workshop delivered an outline framework for defining PLM Benefits in real businesses. The results can be used by the participants in their own organisations, and will also form part of the overall Launch Phase results. Participants in the Workshops received a written Summary Document after their event, and will receive compiled information about the results of the other workshops in the series. Workshop Objectives The objectives of each Workshop were the same:- to bring together PLM practitioners and enable them to examine and evaluate their experiences in defining and measuring PLM benefits; to work through the whole scope of what an industry-standard Benefits Reference Model should be; and to generate all of the draft material to create a workshop view of a PLM Benefits Framework. The PLM Interest Group provided all of the printed material, took notes and flip chart pages while the Workshop was running, and produced the Summary Document from the draft Workshop output. Who Hosted the Workshops? The London Workshop was hosted by UGS, and the Boston Workshop by PTC, two of the Founder Members of the Benefits Reference Model Project. Other Founder Members will host workshops in other countries. The Founder Members are acting as hosts, not vendors, and the meetings are completely open. You can go to whichever workshop is closest to you. The PLM Benefits Reference Model Initiative The Launch Phase will lead to a full Benefits Reference Model (BRM) project, involving many PLM organisations working in collaboration. The objective of the BRM Project will be to establish a comprehensive, practical and agreed Reference Model for measuring and comparing PLM Benefits. What is needed in order to start working towards the Reference Model is:-
