'Drivers for PLM' Survey

Why is a Survey Needed?

The PLM Interest Group is leading an initiative to develop an internationally-agreed, industry standard Benefits Reference Model (BRM) for PLM.  The Model will save time when identifying the benefits in each new PLM situation, make it easier to communicate about PLM, and provide a rigorous basis for management decisions about PLM investments.

One of the main aims of the Reference Model is that it will quantify the benefits that can be achieved through PLM in terms that non-PLM business decision makers will understand.

Rather than having to explain in detail to a CEO or MD what PLM is so that a project can be justified, the Model will show the business improvements that other companies have realised, and therefore what the new PLM project should achieve.

For this to happen, the Reference Model must show results for the business drivers that are seen as most important in your organisation.  For example, the Model may be of little persuasive use if it has metrics for 'Portfolio Management', if the most important perceived driver in your company is 'Regulatory Compliance'.

What the Survey Will Show

There are a number of existing frameworks or groupings of PLM driver issues.  They are sometimes referred to as 'Value Drivers' or 'PLM Pillars' and are often devised by vendors or consultancies.  These are very valuable, and are being incorporated into the BRM as they are put forward by the organisations concerned.  However, they tend to be proprietary and they are not comprehensive in scope.

This is why the PLMIG is running the 'Drivers for PLM' Survey. By conducting an open, independent, international survey of PLM organisations of all types, the PLMIG will identify what are the true reasons why PLM initiatives are undertaken. The Survey will show what aims and results are most important for decision-makers in real companies. It may also show "new" drivers that are not part of existing thinking.

Scope of the Survey

It is important to emphasise that the Survey is open to organisations of all types (user, vendor, consultancy, systems integrator, research, etc); in all countries; and at all stages of PLM implementation.  The Survey is truly global, so there will be returns from most of the countries with companies that are in contact with the PLMIG.  You do not have to be a Member of the PLMIG to take part.

Benefits of Participation

Everyone who sends in a valid Questionnaire will receive a copy of the Survey Results.

How to Participate
