PLM Orientation

Supporting PLM Self-Assessment

There is no doubt that the most powerful way to generate an agreed picture within your company of PLM progress and opportunities is for you to carry out the assessment yourselves.  It leverages all of your experience, and brings you face to face with what you do and do not know.

Initial use of the Self-Assessment Toolkit in Germany and the UK indicates that its methodology is simple and effective, but that it may be difficult for PLM managers to extract concise, management-level information about their PLM that can be used in interviews and group discussions.

This is no reflection on the skills of the PLM teams, but simply a consequence of their having been so deeply involved with PLM for so long.  When you know a subject in great depth, and have massive amounts of information available to you, it can be a major challenge to condense it so that non-PLM colleagues can understand.

The PLM Orientation Sessions come to your site in a 1-Day or 2-Day format, to assist in preparing for a Self-Assessment and (if required) to support the closing and review process.

The sessions are focused entirely on PLM within your company.  You receive your own copy of the Self-Assessment Toolkit in advance of the Orientation sessions, and then apply it in the normal way.

1-Day Session

This enables the PLM team to generate the clear PLM picture that will be the basis of your internal discussions around the organisation.

The morning session covers:-

  • Background to PLM in your Company
  • Interaction with Corporate requirements
  • Outline Planning for the Self-Assessment
  • Review of Material Preparation
  • How PLM impacts the Self-Assessment participants
  • Interview Planning

The afternoon session should involve people outside the team, either in the form of a PLM presentation or PLM group discussion, or by carrying out one or two initial interviews for the Self-Assessment.  This then allows time for the PLM team to review the day's events and to decide on the next actions.

2-Day Format

In the 2-Day format, the second on-site day can be timed to support the group discussion; or to act as a review session once the Self-Assessment has been completed, to work through the results and next steps.

The second day format might be:-

  • Review of Interview Results
  • Cross-Check Group Discussion Slides
  • Run Group Discussion
  • Cross-Check Discussion Notes and Issues
  • Outline Next Steps
  • Draft Self-Assessment Report

Location and Fee
The sessions are held at the company site and are based on the company's PLM. The fees are €2500 / $3150 / £1750 per day, discounted for PLMIG members.  A copy of the Self-Assessment Toolkit is included.  Travel and accommodation are charged at cost.
