PLMIG announces Global PLM Standards Workshop

Oxford, England. February 17, 2010

Recent discussions have shown a widespread demand for new PLM standards that are practical to use, globally applicable, and that complement the work of existing standards organisations. The first step in creating these is to bring PLM practitioners from many countries to one location to decide how it should be done.

The PLMIG will host a PLM Standards Workshop in Oxford, England, scheduled provisionally for March 24-25. There will be a follow-on workshop in the USA if a suitable location can be arranged.

The Workshop is a chance for participants to decide what the new standards should be, how they should be developed, and which kind of industry body should maintain them. Delegates will also be able to work on their own standards ideas at the meeting.

A wide range of standards will be under discussion, ranging from technical standards such as Product Structure to comprehensive standards for PLM Delivery. These have the potential to greatly improve the effectiveness of PLM in multinationals (where geographical and product complexity are the barriers) and smaller companies that simply need to know the best way of moving forward.

The PLM Interest Group
The PLM Interest Group is a global Group which brings together its members to work proactively to solve their PLM problems. It has previously run workshops that have produced the PLM Benchmarking Handbook; the PLM-SCM Guidebook; and the PLM Maturity Reference Manual.
