PLMIG confirms first Global PLM Standards Workshop

Oxford, England. March 01, 2010

The PLMIG will host a PLM Standards Workshop in Oxford, England, on March 24-25 2010. This will be the first ever workshop with the specific aim of defining a standards framework for the whole of PLM, and it is expected to be the platform for an ongoing PLM standards initiative in 2010.

The Agenda for the Workshop is based on direct input from standards organisations, user corporations, consultancies and researchers in Europe, the USA and the southern hemisphere. The aim is to create an inclusive, collaborative environment that involves practitioners from all parts of the PLM spectrum, working with an open and international outlook.

The Workshop is a chance for participants to decide what the new standards should be, how they should be developed, and which kind of industry body should maintain them. Delegates will also be able to work on their own standards ideas at the meeting. The Launch in March has the potential to change the PLM landscape from an unstructured industry to a profession with agreed, documented best practice and skills.

The PLM Interest Group is a global Group which brings together its members to work proactively to solve their PLM problems. It has previously run workshops that have produced the PLM Benchmarking Handbook; the PLM-SCM Guidebook; and the PLM Maturity Reference Manual.
