PLM Reference Models

Background

The Reference Models are an example of the synergy between PLMIG activities.  PLM Best Practice was launched as a PLMIG initiative in 2005 with Open Days in Oxford and Paris, where it immediately became clear that the subject is much more complex than simply surveying what leading organisations are doing and collating the results.

Understanding this complexity led in due course to the PLM Benefits Reference Model concept and launch, which is based on the Best Practice structure but aims at a defined sub-set of the initial concept.

Work on the Benefits Reference Model in London and Boston highlighted the need for industry standard knowledge of PLM Maturity, giving rise to three inter-related Models:-

-

"Here's where we are, and this is where we can go"

-

"This is what we should have gained by now, and what we can expect to gain by going forward"

-

"This is what the best in my industry have achieved"

Developing the Reference Models

The three Reference Models will be developed in parallel during via workshops, direct collaboration, and managed discussion of the subject between PLMIG members..
